Boston Globe’s Spotlight on Medford

Wrights Pond, Medford, MAThis past Sunday the Boston Globe did a spotlight on the city of Medford. I want to state for the record the NO ONE in Medford calls the city “Meffa”. In fact, that is a derogatory name. Our diction may not be perfect, so I will agree that most people who live and/or work in the city pronounce the name “Med-fud”, but then again, we’re a suburb of Boston, so we’re not supposed to pronounce our “R’s”.

My rebuttal stems from Sacha Pfeiffer’s last paragraph of the cons of Medford. In her opinion, “the student-heavy areas around Tufts can have a run-down, transient feel”. Many of the multi family homes around Tufts are owner occupied with 1 or 2 rental apartments and the majority are not run-down. She then goes on to say, “. . .the Mystic, while pretty to look at, isn’t clean enough for swimming.” Why would anyone want to swim in the Mystic and have to dodge boats when we have Wrights Pond, a Medford Residents only swimming pond with a sandy beach, restrooms, beautiful gardens, playground, lifeguards and concession stand?

Ms. Pfeiffer, I invite you to come for a personal tour of the city!
