  • Bring the Green Line to Route 16

Aug 5th, 2008 | By DebOnTheWeb | Category: Arlington MA, Greener Living, Medford MA, Real Estate, Somerville MA

With the high cost of gas, many people are rediscovering public transportation. There couldn’t be a better time to bring the Green Line to the city of Medford MA. The more stops in the city, the more people will have access. I support bringing the Green Line to Route 16 near the Medford/Somerville/Arlington border. Read more about bringing the Green Line to Route 16 from the Medford Green Line Neighborhood Alliance.

It’s good for the environment, will save people money on their commutes and will be good for real estate values in the city. (Look what bringing in the Red Line did for Davis Square.) If you think this sounds like a good idea, you can sign the petition.

    4. Thank you for supporting the Green Line extension. It will make Medford an even better place to live, work and visit.

    5. Thanks for all of the hard work you’re doing, Ken, to bring the Green Line to Route 16!

    6. I would support the route 16 extension more if it included a parking garage for people in nearby communities.
No one outside in the immediate neighborhood is going to use it unless bus connections to Woburn-Winchester-Arlington-Belmont-Somerville and Medford are added.

Especially winchester should develop a local bus connection that runs all day till about 12 am - to allow for late night commuters, and people coming home from events in the city to be able to get back to the center of town.

I am worried about the lack of connecting transit options , and the amount of street traffic in the Winchester area that will increase with people driving to the station to drop off, pick up. Also there will be long lines of people idling on the side of the street, and in the immediate area, waiting to pick people up and drop off.
      Creating traffic around that area.

A comprehensive bus system should be developed to allow people to use the station with minimal disruption to the neighborhood.

    7. Hi Jeff - thanks for your comment. I know there has been a lot of discussion back and forth about a parking garage. I agree with you about the bus connections. As I understand it, the idea is to create a T stop more like Davis Square where people walk & bus to the stop rather than Alewife where people drive to get there.
