With the good weather, many people do a heavy dose of cleaning, but how do you get rid of the stuff that you don’t want any longer, without having it all end up in a landfill? The first step is finding someone who wants what you no longer use. You can try to sell these items on e-bay or Craigs List, or you might want to give the items away to a good home. You can post items for free on Craigs List as well or try FreeCycle, a global grassroots effort to help people share what they no longer want. Maybe there’s a local charity that can use your items? I like to donate to Shelter, Inc., a non-profit organization working to end homelessness in Greater Boston.

Once you’ve given away all of your useful “stuff”, remember to recycle all you can of what’s left before you start tossing things into the trash. Together we can make a difference!
