Poll: Bring Green Line to Route 16?

The Medford Transcript is running a poll to see what residents think of bringing the Green Line of the MBTA to Route 16. Make sure your voice is heard and vote in the Green Line poll.

As of today, February 14th, an overwhelming number of people who have voted agree with me and want to see this happen.

Important Green Line Meeting

Yes, gas prices are no longer $4.00 a gallon, but alternative energy options and increasing public transportation are no less important. On Tuesday, February 3rd there will be a meeting regarding the Green Line extension of the MBTA. At this meeting the Executive Office of Transportation will present its “preferred alternative” for the terminus of the Green Line – either at College Ave. or Route 16 (the Mystic Valley Parkway).

The meeting is from 4-6 PM at St. Clement’s Parish Hall, 579 Boston Ave., Medford. The Medford Green Line Neighborhood Alliance has all of the information and a petition you can sign to support bringing the Green Line to Route 16, near the borders of Medford, Arlington and Somerville so that more people can walk to public transportation.

With the high price of gas, I’m meeting with many buyers who have decided it’s time to move either closer to work or to a commuter friendly area. Thankfully the cities of Arlington, Medford, Somerville, Malden, Melrose and the surrounding communities all have wonderful access to public transportation. The T itself, a multitude of buses and the commuter rail all make getting to work from these communities easier on your wallet and the environment by taking public transportation.

The MBTA has a wonderful site that lets you put in any address and see what the options are for taking public transportation.

Maybe public transportation just isn’t right for you,but you’re still trying to determine whether or not it makes sense for you to move closer to work. Check out the Commuting Calculator which will help you decide if it makes more sense to buy a house in a more expensive area that’s closer to work or to buy a house with a longer commute that costs less.
